Augmented Major Seventh Chords (Maj7#5) - Diagrams and Voicing Charts

What is a Major 7#5 Chord?

As its name implies, an aumented major seventh chord is simply a major 7th chord with the fifth raised by a semitone (#5). It is built with a root (1), a major third (3), a sharp fifth (#5) and a major seventh (7). This kind of chord can be played in place of any major 7th chord and can be interesting when you want to add a little bit of tension to your playing.

There are three scales that can be played over the major 7#5 chord :

The Lydian augmented scale from the melodic minor mode scale. Formula is 1 - 2 - 3 - #4 - #5 - 6 - 7.
The Ionian #5 from the harmonic minor mode. Formula is 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - #5 - 6 - 7.
The Lydian augmented #2 from the harmonic major scale. Formula is : 1 - #2 - 3 - #4 - #5 - 6 - 7
